Max
Corbacho have been quietly working over the last years
on quiet long-form atmospheric ambient-spacemusic, joining
sound exploration and fascination by the natural environments.
A
few years ago he surprised us with his strong debut 'Vestiges',
and since
then they have followed a series of new
inviting deep explorations. Corbacho´s music combines
ambient excursions,
light drone-textural worlds and groovescapes with a beautiful
backing of environmental sounds and fx's, giving the musical
painting
an
extremely dense atmosphere.

|
Light and harmony could set this purely atmospheric
new work by Max Corbacho. Not the blinding light from outside
but light filtered through high windows of colored glass, broken
and transformed into multi-colored gems, transferring that which
is material to That which is immaterial. Like a weightless dream,
the main theme is exposed in Light-Matrix Portal, where a gentle
swirl of chords leads us, as in a Gothic doorway, in a magnificent
space. The main theme remains on all the pieces in a subtle
way, spreading mystical, delicate scents through labyrinthine
passages ascending and spiraling to the vaults. Max presents
the album’s flow through different sonic zones sequentially,
as if we proceeded on walking meditation in a 13th century cathedral.

BreathStream
is a new series of seven atmospheric spaces built,
as in the previous and highly acclaimed The Talisman, with synthetic
textures and floating harmonies. Since the resplendent chords
of "This Luminous Space" the contemplative nature
of this work is evident, conforming a smooth journey through
deep interior spaces, as if we were floating deeply immersed
in a long,
quiet, spacious breathing.
The most pervasive mood here is one of almost blissful submission
- a captivating serenity imbued with a sense of enveloping immensity.

A
collection of previously not published tracks, destined to
collaboration projects that finally did not see the light,
plus two totally new pieces. Moontribe creates an immersive
space, where spectral colourzones meet floating tribal-esque
pulsing groovescapes.
The four first tracks correspond to stage 2000-2001, the tribal
character emerges forcefully in "Suntribe",the first piece
of the CD, and the energic percussions drive the atmospheric
textures also in the next two tracks. Huge growing currents
of sound are rising, falling and surrounding. Techno-tribal
beats, with mesmerizing sound effects are taking full control
of us.The sound here is so powerful, expanding yet warm and
elegant. This most beautiful storm we've been in ends somewhere
in the deep hidden ancient foggy swamps. The two final pieces
were created in the last months of 2003, in them can be appreciated
the evolution of Max´s soundscapes. The final cut, "Moontribe",
spiral in an entrancing and melancolic synth layered chords
over 20 minutes, a vastly, relaxed and amorphous immersive
conclussion. |

this exceptional and impressive release, knowing that this
is only the 1st collab between these gentlemans, it's clear
that they made a magic duo and are masters of the genre. I
find this album one to return to over and over again, catching
up new glimpses.. from these intoxicating and captivating
spaces.
I'm very anxious what Max & Bruno can bring us more in
the future.

"Nocturnal Emanations is the 4th album of the Spanish
ambientcomposer Max Corbacho, which again is worth the long
wait. It features typical quiet longform ambient-spacemusic
divided in 8 tracks, in which transparent synthwashes slowly
develop and desolve. A certain comparison to the current ambient
excursions and light drone-textural worlds of his US collegue
Steve Roach (again) can't be denied, but next to that, Corbacho
has arranged a beautiful backing with a vast aray of environmental
sounds and fx's, giving the musical painting an almost dense
atmosphere. The slow flowing and morphing soundscapes, sometimes
accompanied by distinct ambient percussion and sequencertreats
(in which a slight high-tech component like Vir Unis is obvious),
even gain effect when experienced in the evening or at night
when using headphones. Stillness and introspectiveness all
make up for over 73 highly atmospheric music,which seems to
be the standard for such recordings since a few years."

Vestiges
is a great ambient expanse of soundscapes much in the style

but with a Spanish flair, particularly in the percussion
that is added.
